Session 7 - The Impacts of Upgrading Regional Airports to Cater to AAM Services
Tuesday October 29, 2024 8:30am - 9:15am EDT
Our study focuses on the potential impacts of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) services on communities near airports in Western Massachusetts. We propose implementing UAM and UAS services, along with necessary infrastructure upgrades, at three airports in the region. These services include commercial aero taxis, cargo transportation, and first responder activities for UAM, and last-mile delivery and specialized transportation.

Our goal is to provide recommendations for regional and local airports to support emerging Advanced Air Mobility services while minimizing environmental impact and promoting economic growth.

Session 10 - Environmental Status and Planning Reporting at Hanscom Field
Tuesday October 29, 2024 11:00am - 11:30am EDT
Massport prepares Environmental Status and Planning Reports (ESPRs) for Hanscom Field every five years. The ESPR covers a wide range of topics like those that are covered in environmental assessment for NEPA, but without focusing on a particular development project; it reports on current conditions and evaluates potential future conditions using forecast activity levels.

The ESPR goes through the process of Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) filing and coordination with FAA. The regular reporting can simplify environmental filings for projects and help with sustainable development planning. The reporting also provides a level of transparency that assists in building trust between the airport and its neighbors.
